About Kate Stoltz NYC

nyc fashion designer kate stoltz Kate Stoltz is a fashion designer based in New York City. Kate moved to New York City after being signed by Major Model Management NYC, one of NYC's top ten modeling agencies. Kate went on to appear in international fashion magazines, appeared on major television broadcasts, worked in fashion showrooms and walked in New York City runway shows. It was while working in the fashion industry as a model that Kate Stoltz discovered her true lifelong passion: fashion design.

Kate had started sewing at the young age of nine after learning from her older sister. She spent her teenage days sewing traditional Amish clothing for her siblings and herself. After moving to the city, she soon missed creating and working with her hands. The exposure to the craftsmanship displayed in the fashion shows inspired Kate to once again embrace her creative side. She set out with a new goal: to learn everything she could about couture fashion design and garment construction.

Kate Stoltz applied and was accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City as a fashion design major student in 2015. There, she was an honor student and a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society member. She dedicated her time to learning and mastering each technique taught in her courses at FIT, Kate has taken classes focused on couture garment construction, industry-standard pattern making, sketching, and other subjects related to fashion design. She is dedicated to mastering the work, with a tendency to strive for perfection.

Between semesters at FIT and working on Kate Stoltz NYC, Kate Stoltz had the opportunity to intern with international fashion designer Cynthia Rowley and was eventually hired as an assistant product designer at Jason Wu. There, she helped create patterns, cut and sew couture garments for upcoming fashion shows. Kate also helped production at their Midtown factory, collected swatches for new garments, and did various other tasks that the design team needed assistance with.

Kate Stoltz is funneling her years sewing experience, her education, exposure to the fashion industry, creativity and endless energy into her own fashion label: Kate Stoltz NYC. Each dress in the Kate Stoltz NYC collection is made to order in Kate's studio. Each garment is carefully cut to individual client measurements, using a mixture of pattern making and draping techniques to get a tailored fit. The pieces are then sewn together using both machine and hand sewing. Attention to detail is key, including inside each garment. Inner seams are finished with a French seam for both durability and aesthetic appeal, even if they are then covered with a silk lining.

Kate Stoltz NYC is dedicated to designing and producing locally, paying fair wages and eliminating garment waste by running small productions. Because of her personal desire to minimize her own impact on the earth, Kate Stoltz is dedicated to providing high quality, sustainable clothing for her clients with the smallest environmental impact possible. With a focus on quality instead of quantity, each Kate Stoltz NYC piece is a one of a kind garment that can be worn with pride by a conscious customer.
